Description of Training:
The client’s therapeutic process in addiction and mental health problems is a mythic journey one full of struggles, challenges and rewards. The Hero’s Journey model formulated by Joseph Campbell is based on common patterns of change found throughout 240 stories in the world. This workshop will delineate and explore how to flexibly integrate the 12 Hero’s Journey Stages, 12 common Archetypes with Stages of Change and Interpersonal Neurobiology in therapy. This workshop is a strength based engaging approach that weaves ancient wisdom and modern science into therapy and can be adapted to socio-cultural concerns. It is a refreshing structured approach that allows clients to discover how to navigate difficulties and locate hope. This model can be adapted to any therapy and treatment modality. Meets Cultural Competency CE requirement.

Learning Objectives:
- Delineate the elements in the Hero’s Journey within common cultural patterns.
- Explore the linkage between the Hero’s Journey and Stages of Change.
- Apply the Stages of the Hero’s Journey to the therapeutic process.
- Explore the universality of Stages of the Hero’s Journey, 12 common Archetypes and link to clinical and socio-cultural concerns.
- Understand the Interpersonal Neurobiology of story telling, and emotional regulation within the Hero’s Journey model.
