SUMMARY:Webinar: Polarities of American Culture and the Impact on Therapy: Amish/Las Vegas (4 CE’s)
DESCRIPTION:Description of Training: \nThe Amish and Las Vegas are symbols of two polarities in American culture\, in the world and within ourselves. Las Vegas represents fast pace\, instant gratification\, materialism\, risk\, impulse\, excitement\, and individualism. The Amish symbolize simplicity\, plainness\, selflessness\, community\, slow change\, and humility.  The workshop will explore a clinical integrative model that links how thoughts\, behavior\, biology and feelings and values are interacting in our clients and in ourselves. A cultural/therapy model gives us a wider clinical perspective of how ADHD\, depression\, anxiety\, addiction\, family dysfunction\, and trauma affects our lives. We will explore cultural context and how to identify skills to regulate cultural polarities that affect our dynamics and symptoms such as:  under and over stimulation\, self- oriented versus other- directed\, denial of loss versus honoring loss\, violence versus nonviolence\, present versus past\, enmeshment versus disengagement and blaming versus accepting. This workshop will be a fascinating\, informative\, engaging blend of culture/ therapy information\, stories\, discussions and suggestion on how to resolve the tensions in the Amish/Las Vegas polarity that are within many clinical settings. Meets Cultural Competency CE requirement. \nThis training will be conducted in a webinar format. You will receive an email prior to the webinar with instructions on how to sign in to the webinar. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nEmphasize the presence of polarities that exist in culture and ourselves.\nHighlight a trans-theoretical model that integrates mind/mood/behaviors and the body with culture/environment.\nLearn how to integrate a holistic cultural perspective with dynamic tensions such as self-directed other directed.\nLearn how the Technology Gap theory can help us better understand how our clients are affected by technological forces (cell phones\, computers\, etc.) and how to problem solve collaboratively and manage technology use.\nExamine approaches to minimize self and other directed violence.\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar: Understanding and Navigating Prolonged Grief Disorder and Loss (4 CE’s)
DESCRIPTION:Description of Training: \nProlonged Grief Disorder is a new diagnosis announced in DSM-V-TR during the 2022 COVID-19 pandemic\, a time of rapidly rising environmental concerns\, social concerns and gun violence. We will examine what this recent diagnosis is and explore the positive and controversial aspects of it.   The workshop will delineate “normal” grief from prolonged grief disorder. We will explore death and non-death losses in clinical work (divorce\, unemployment\, illness\, social justice issues\, etc.)  and how these losses need to be identified and understood as a dual process model between the shifting dynamics of loss and resilience. \nThe workshop will explore Kubler- Ross and Kessler’s” five stages of grief theory” and how it has been challenged by research findings for over the last twenty years. This workshop will explore a response theory approach to grief and bereavement as opposed to distinct and finite stages and explore a dual process model of coping with bereavement and non-death loss and grief. A focus will be on identifying the evidenced based risk factors of prolonged grief disorder and explore culturally sensitive approaches in dealing with grief and bereavement. The workshop will examine scales that can help with identification of prolonged grief disorder. \nThis workshop will combine finding meaning in death and non-death loss with an integrative tool-based approach that can be adapted to a wide variety individuals and socio-cultural identities. Meets Cultural Competency CE requirement. \nObjectives: \n\nAnalyze how prolonged grief disorder is experienced and expressed in clients and within diversity issues.\nExamine a response theory to death and non-death losses.\nDelineate the Dual Process Model for coping with death and non-death loss and grief.\nExplore outcome measures that are helpful in identifying the diagnosis of Prolonged Grief Disorder.\nUtilize an integrative tool-based approach across therapies that can be adapted to a wide variety of individuals and socio-cultural identities.\n\nReferences: \nDaniel\, T. SUMMARY:Webinar: Schema Therapy: Identification and Transformation (4 CE’s)
DESCRIPTION:Description of Training:\n\nSchema Therapy is an evidence based cognitive/behavioral and psychodynamic approach of CBT developed by Jeff Young PhD in the 1990’s. Many clients are affected by their positive and negative schemas and this workshop will offer how to identify and shift maladaptive schemas and support healthy schemas. This will be done in a well-paced workshop that will be practical and creative. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify maladaptive schemas (life history and present moment)\nUnderstand current triggers to schema development\nExamine how to educate clients about schemas\nDelineate the behavioral driven components of schemas and how to shift them into transformation\nExamine schema focused (bio/psycho/social) change strategies.\n\nReferences: \nFarrell\, J.\, Reiss\, N. and Shaw\, I.
